A Tribute to John P. Fricano
John was born May 13, 1970 in Silver Creek, Buffalo and at age 7 moved to Williamsville, New York. In June 1983, at the age of 13, his family moved to Freehold, New Jersey, when his father, Tom Fricano, was elected Regional Director of Region 9 of the UAW.
John grew up the son of a committed UAW worker. He learned the importance of commitment, loyalty, dedication and hard work.
John graduated from St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, New Jersey in 1988 and then attended York College of Pennsylvania. He graduated from York College of Pennsylvania in May 1992 with a Bachelors’ of Arts Degree in Communications. He was a Founding Father and served as President of Phi Kappa Si fraternity. Like his father, John was a true leader and well respected.
With his dedication and loyalty, John’s contributions as an advocate of Affordable Housing significantly improved the lives of others.
After graduating, John worked for 4 years with Relational Data Services (RDS) in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania as a sales representative.
In 1995, John moved back to New Jersey to begin working with Region Nine UAW Housing Corporation (RNHC). He began as a Site Manager in their New Brunswick building and after five years was promoted to the corporate offices of RNHC. John was well respected, and truly loved by the residents. John’s hard work and dedication made him a natural choice to become the next President of Region Nine Housing Corporation. Unfortunately, after being groomed to take the Presidential seat, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
After an 18 month battle with cancer, John passed away on his 34th birthday, May 13, 2004. On July 21, 2006, Region Nine Housing Corporation held a dedication ceremony to officiate the renaming of their New Brunswick building to John P. Fricano Towers in his memory.
John married his high school sweetheart, Roberta, in 1993. They had 1 son, Salvatore Thomas. Roberta went on to become a Registered Nurse after John’s passing and began working with RNHC in August 2012, as Medical Service Coordinator educating and assisting the residents with all their medical needs.
